Chinese heavy-duty truck parts companies entering the European and American markets have undergone a transformation from low-end substitution to mid-range competition. Weichai Power has gained access to the European market through the acquisition of French engine company Baudouin and German forklift giant Kaion Group. By 2024. China National Heavy Duty Truck Group's HOWO brand accessories will have a market share of 3.2% in the European after-sales market, with main products including wheel hubs, suspension components, and electrical parts.
On a technical level, Chinese companies have reached or approached European and American standards in the fields of filters, brake pads, and lighting accessories. For example, the air suspension system of Ningbo Top has passed the German T Ü V certification and has begun to provide supporting services for European commercial fleets. In terms of electrification accessories, BYD's commercial electric vehicle battery packs and motor systems have received orders from multiple logistics fleets in the UK and the Netherlands.
However, Chinese accessory companies still face many challenges. Firstly, there are certification barriers. The European and American markets have strict requirements for E-mark, DOT, and other certifications for accessories, and the full set of certification fees may reach millions of RMB. Secondly, channel construction is difficult. Mature markets in Europe and America are already covered by distribution networks of giants such as Bosch and mainland China, and building new channels requires a significant amount of time and capital investment. More importantly, there is the issue of brand awareness, as European and American end-users still have a stereotype of "low price and low quality" Chinese accessories.
The future breakthrough directions should include establishing deep cooperation with local enterprises in Europe and America, participating in international standard setting, and increasing research and development investment to enhance product added value. It is expected that by 2030. the market share of Chinese heavy-duty truck parts in the European and American markets is expected to increase to 8-10%, especially in the fields of new energy and intelligent parts, which may achieve a corner overtaking.
